If you have listened the stories of Lahore from people, you must ask
about Islamabad. They will tell you Islamabad is a graveyard with pretty trees.
They are just jealous of our air quality. Yes, the city is quiet and contains
peace. This city goes to sleep by 11:00 PM and this is why it works. This city stays
out of your way so you can actually get things done.
1. The Sector Cheat Sheet
The city is built on a grid. And you will feel bored until
you realize how easy it is to navigate.
- The
"Burgers" (F-6, F-7): This is the area where the posh kids
hang out. If you want a 1,500 PKR latte and a place to look busy with your
MacBook, head to Kohsar Market or Jinnah Super is best for
this purpose.
- The
Students (G-8, G-9, I-8): This is where the real life is found. I-8
Markaz is basically the new headquarters for students and young
professionals. It is packed with food, energy, and people who are not
trying to impress anyone.
- The
Rivalry: Every sector has a Shaheen Chemist and a D. Watson
pharmacy right next to each other. Nobody knows why. You just pick one and
stay loyal to it for the rest of your life. This is the law.
2. The "Must-Dos" (Without the Cliches)
- Faisal
Mosque: You go to this mosque at Maghrib (sunset). Not just take a
selfie; sit on the cold marble of the mosque. Believe me this mosque is designed
very beautifully. And listen to the call to prayer echo off the hills. This
is an amazing experience. This is one of the few places that actually
lives up to the hype.
- Hiking
(Trail 3 vs. Trail 5): Trail 3 is for people who want to be seen in
their expensive gym gear. Trail 5 is for people who actually like
nature and greenry. If you go on a weekday morning, you will have the
mountain to yourself. It is the best "debug" session for your
brain. A place that will give you relief.
- Saidpur
Village: It is a bit of a tourist trap now, but the tea at the small
stalls is simple and decent. Go there for the vibes, have stay for the
photography. And leave before the dinner rush hits.
3. The "I’m Broke and Hungry" Food Guide
In a trip, your budget matters:
- Savour
Foods (Blue Area): It is the ultimate Islamabad experience. It is
cheap, it is fast, and it is surprisingly good. If you have not stood in a
massive queue for a plate of Savour pulao, you have not lived here. You will
like the food there.
- Majeed
Huts (QAU): If you can get onto the Quaid-i-Azam University campus, go
and find the "Crisis Omelet." It is legendary. It is basically
grease, eggs, and pure joy.
- F-10
at Night: If you are pulling an all-nighter on a project and need
fuel, F-10 Markaz is your best friend. From Howdy's burgers
to the local Quetta Tea spots, this is one of the few places that
stays alive late in Islamabad.
4. The IT Student’s Workspace
- Burning
Brownie (F-7): The unofficial tech hub. Half the startups in Islamabad
were probably brainstormed over their chocolate cheesecake.
- The
National Library: If you need silence—real silence—this is the
spot. A very quiet library. It is massive, an old-school, and perfect for
when you need to grind through a textbook.
- F-9
Park: Honestly, if the weather is good (which it is right now), just
sit under a tree in F-9 with a portable hotspot. It is the biggest park in
the Islamabad and better than any office in the city.
5. The Best Time to Be Here
- Spring:
Everything is exploding with flowers in this season. It is beautiful city,
but if you have allergies, may God help your soul. The "pollen
count" is a bigger topic of conversation here than the weather. The persons
with pollen allergy may feel difficulty in this city.
- November:
The "Hoodie Season". The air smells like woodsmoke. The hills in
this season get misty. You can finally walk outside without melting here.
Final Thought
Islamabad does not try to grab your attention. It is not
loud, it is not flashy, and it does not care if you think it is boring. It is a
city that lets you be yourself. Whether you are coding in a cafe in I-8 or
watching the sunset from the top of the hills, it is a place that just feels...
right. This city has very peace.
Do not just visit the landmarks. Walk the streets, find a
favorite chai spot, and enjoy the quiet. You will find that once you get used
to the pace here, every other city feels like it is screaming at you.
